Designing My Own Classroom

This year I was given the opportunity to design the layout of an infant room. I applied my knowledge that I have obtained from previous education to design this classroom.

Within the classroom, I had an area near the window that has the intention of being a space where children can interact with the other children who are in the outdoor environment. It is also a softer space that can be used for calming if desired. I then set the tables close to the snack preparing area and had enough tables and chairs to fit the ratios. I then had a low shelf that had books stored in it, in an attempt to incorporate literacy within the classroom. I then filled the shelves with developmentally appropriate materials. I placed shelves against the wall, to promote a more open space for gross-motor movement. I also added tricycle-like materials that promote the infants using their legs to move the tricycle-like object. I ensured that there was no carpet in the classroom as with COVID-19 carpet is to be avoided within infant environments.
